Warming up the engines
The next adventure of Marco Polo Team will depart in August 2007, its preparation is proceeding, studying all details in order to take our riders from Venice to Hiroshima. The basis of Marco Polo Team were set in 2005 with the Venice - Beijing Motoraid , riding the BMW GS in the footsteps of venetian explorer Marco Polo in one marvellous trip combined with a charitable initiative.
For the coming adventure, about 20.000 km of roads, steppes, sands and fords separate us from Hiroshima, a city that we will reach after riding through Siberia and Mongolia. A tough but thrilling riding along the mythical Trans-Siberian Railway route, the greatest railroad of the world, that will lead us with our BMW’s into forests, taigas and desolated tundra.
We will make the adventure even more tough and exciting by swerving into Mongolia to reach the Gobi desert, on the horseback of our bikes through the mysterious country of Genghis Khan, where asphalt roads and road transportation rarely exist outside main cities.
From there we will reach and explore some almost unknown tracks of oriental Siberia, where few travellers dare to go, until reaching the Russian island of Sakhalin, then to Hokkaido Island.
Once disembarking on Japanese land we will ride through particular roads and tracks, admiring the naturalistic and technological wonders of this fascinating nation.
With our bikes we will trace a route intended to be an ideal but also concrete glimmer of hope and solidarity joining Chernobyl to Hiroshima, through the charity initiative "Sadako Project".
